President Mahinda Rajapaksa opened the “ Pinbara Lanka “ exhibition on 18 th May at the Colombo National Museum where a host of artifacts including the casket bearing the ashes of King Dutugemunu are on display. He paid his respects to the casket bearing the ashes of King Dutugemunu who united the country under one flag and committed himself to promote Buddhism in the country.
The exhibition organized by the Ministry of National Heritage parallel to the 2600th Sri Sambuddhatva Jayanthi will conclude on May 31. Gold plated Buddha statues, found in Sri Lanka, gold caskets in which relics are kept and valuable Buddha statues confiscated by the Department from treasure hunters will also be on display.
The exhibition is co-sponsored by The Ministry of National Heritage, the Department of Archaeology, Department of National Archives and the Department of National Museums.
Minister of National Heritage Dr. Jagath Balasuriya, Secretary to the Ministry of National Heritage, Ms.Kanthi Wijethunga, Director of Department of National Museums Dr. Nanda Wickramasinghe and Director General of the Archaeological Department, Dr. Senerath Dissanayake were also present.
