Heiyanthuduwe Raja’s the ceremonial tusker ......

 

 

Heiyanthuduwe Raja’s the ceremonial tusker of Sri Dalada Maligawa for 11 years was died in 2002.

 Its pair of tusks, skull and the other parts of the skeleton was donated to the Department of National Museum by its owner Mr. Henry Gunasekara.

Later this was carefully preserved and assembled by the staff of the Taxidermy section of the Department of National Museum.

This skeleton was unveiled by the National Heritage Ministry, Minister Dr.J.Balasooriya at the Natural History Museums premises of the Department of National Museums on 29th January 2013, for public exposition.

Honorable Senior Minister Athavuda Seneviratne and Uva province Chief Minister Sasheendra Rajapaksha, Sourthern province Governor Mrs. Kumari Balasooriya and the National Heritage Ministry, Secretary Dr Nanda Wickramasinge were participated in this ceremonial event.
