Department of National Museums
The Department of National Museums of Sri Lanka is the government institution responsible for preserving, researching, and exhibiting Sri Lanka’s cultural and natural heritage. Through a network of 11 National Museums and 6 research divisions across the country, the Department safeguards valuable collections of archaeology, history, art, ethnography, and natural history. By promoting education, research, and public engagement, the Department aims to inspire appreciation and understanding of Sri Lanka’s rich heritage for present and future generations.

Providing a meaningful museum service to the public with knowledge and inspiration.
Mission
Acquisition, collection, documentation, preservation of artifacts and specimens reflecting cultural and natural heritage and attractive transmission of such collections and knowledge to the public for research, study, educational purposes, and entertainment.
